The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner is a line of watches by Rolex, designed for diving and known for their resistance to water...
see more at Rolex makes the Submariner in their Oyster Perpetual group intended for diving with a reputation for being water proof. The first Submariner was introduced in 1954 as the world's first watch designed for water resistance and tested in high-pressure underwater environments. An excellent example of The Rolex Oyster (waterproof) Perpetual (self winding) group. The watch has gone with explorers on sea and land to many extreme places. During a diving trip one stood up to over a thousand dives. The eminent scientist, Thor Heyerdal wore a Rolex Submariner in his 1970 Ra II sea expedition. The Submariner was the watch of choice for James Bond in his first nine movies. The first Submariner was introduced in 1953 and was rated at a questionable 330ft water resistance, however over the next ten years the watch was redesigned, improved and had better works. On the eve of The Submariner's 50th birthday Rolex released a new design. It has a green bezel and large dial. The Submariner is waterproof to a maximum depth of 300 meters/1000 ft. Your Submariner might have the Triplock system, it is marked by three dots on the crown, which screws down tightly onto the case tube and against the Oyster case providing another layer of protection.{The case itself is made from a solid block of 904L stainless steel, gold, or platinum. This is a very anti-corrosive stainless alloy. Rolex only uses gold that was created in their own foundry so that they can continue to find the best methods. The Rolex Submariner has a moveable bezel so divers can track their air time. The bezel only turns in one direction so that if you move it you can only decrease your underwater time. There is a mechanism that spins inside the watch as you move through your day, this is the part that makes the watch Perpetual, it is turning and the movements are transferred to a spring where the energy is stored for those times that the watch is still, it can keep running up to three days. Every watch has a movement that has been certified by the COSc as a Swiss chronometer. The Rolex calendar advances itself very simply each midnight. The Sea Dweller is sturdier model of The Submariner which appeared in the early 1970's, it has stronger case and crystal. The Sea-Dweller incorporates a helium escape valve for use with helium-based breathing gas mixtures in saturation diving. The current model (ref 16600) is guaranteed waterproof to 1220 meters/4000feet.
