Swiss watch company Rolex makes the Submariner model, an Oyster Perpetual, created to be water proof and used for diving...
see more at Rolex makes the Submariner in their Oyster Perpetual group designed for diving and known for their resistance to water. Built from the drawing board as a water proof watch, The Submariner was first to market and tested in high-pressure underwater environments. An excellent example of The Rolex Oyster (waterproof) Perpetual (self winding) group. The watch has gone with explorers on sea and land to many extreme places. During a diving trip one stood up to over a thousand dives. A well known anthropologist wore a Rolex Submariner in his 1970 Ra II sea expedition. This watch was in all the early James Bond movies The original Submariner was certified for depths of 330 feet however over the next ten years the watch was redesigned, improved and had better works. Rolex honored The Submariner in 2003 for it's 50th anniversary by creating a new model. Although it has the timeless Rolex look a green bezel and Maxi dial were added. Rolex now rates The Submariner for diving to 1000feet. If your watch has three dots on the crown then it is protected by the Triplock system of three gaskets which screws down tightly onto the case tube and against the Oyster case providing another layer of protection.{The case itself is made from a solid block of 904L stainless steel, gold, or platinum. This is a very anti-corrosive stainless alloy. Rolex makes its gold in its own foundry where it can create new alloys and control the quality of the gold. This Rolex model has a one directional bezel that moves to make it easy to follow your dive time. The bezel only turns in one direction so that if you move it you can only decrease your underwater time. There is a mechanism that spins inside the watch as you move through your day, this is the part that makes the watch Perpetual, it is turning and the movements are transferred to a spring where the energy is stored for those times that the watch is still, it can keep running up to three days. Each Rolex Submariner has a movement that is a certified Swiss chronometer. The Rolex calendar advances itself very simply each midnight. Rolex, in 1971, came out with a more working version of The Submariner. The Sea Dweller is stronger with a case and crystal which are thicker. To this watch Rolex built in a helium escape valve for use in saturation diving. These watches are rated for dives as deep as 4000 feet.
